Projects
There are plenty of opportunities for learning, leading, and growing outside of our occupations. Below is a selection of organizations and departments I've participated in without being paid. Each experience left me with a greater perspective and appreciation of the discipline.

Created and operated the "Flynntown Compost Service"
St. John's University - Minnesota
Created a compost service for over 250 students, the Sexton Commons café, and The Perk coffee shop on St. John's University campus. Collected and processed over 3 tons of food waste during the academic year. This project was part of my undergraduate thesis "Why aren't they composting?" It continued operating after my departure through my mentorship of other students. You can read an article about it in the campus newspaper The Record.
Creator of the "Environmental News Columns" in the campus newspaper The Record
St. John's University, Minnesota
Worked with the campus newspaper staff to create a column dedicated to environmental news. The column related environmental issues to campus for students to best engage with the material. The column continued after my tenure through the mentorship of other students.

Created compost bins for community compost garden
Middletown, Connecticut
Volunteered with the Connecticut chapter of the Master Composter program to create a demonstration community compost garden. It functioned as a organic waste drop-off site with educational materials on the decomposition process, advantages for reducing waaste, and applications of composted material.
